Latest on the Farm

The holiday season is upon us and there’s been a flurry of activity at the farm. We’ve had some fun wreath workshops attended by so many wonderful people and we have loved sharing the joy of learning with our new friends.

Although winter weather is slowly creeping in, I’m thankful for the recent milder temperatures offering extra time to finish fall tasks (without frostbite :)). There’s often a mistaken impression that with the arrival of cold weather there’s little activity on the farm. Oftentimes, it feels like there are more to do than during in season. There are bulbs and cool season flower seedlings to plant, there’s digging up, cleaning, and storing of dahlia tubers, and there’s the continuous sowing of more flower seeds for planting out in February/March (think lisianthus). All this preparation for spring flowers helps make winter more tolerable as we daydream about the beauties that will be coming soon.

What have been on your garden to-do list so far?

Fun fact, if you haven’t cleaned up your garden/landscape area of dead plants and fallen leaves, that’s good because they provide shelter and food for our beneficial insects. You’re not procrastinating, you’re being green!
